Glorious Things uber Alles

474px-Joseph_HaydnIn a previous post, Bandhymns.com was delighted to extol the virtues of Big Daddy Bach . . . but he isn’t the only famous classical composer in the hymnbook.  Today, we are pleased to offer a very well known tune by Franz Joseph Hayden, Hymn #46, Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken.

This tune is not just known as a hymn, but it is also recognized as Germany’s National Anthem, called the “Deutschlandlied” or “Das Lied der Deutschen” (according to wikipedia).  Which is why the melody is so familiar to many of us.  Our music minions were embarrassed as they worked this sheet music when our flute play tester asked why we were doing the “Uber Alles” song . . . then it clicked and it all made sense.
This one is worth having for its historical significance and that it was penned by one of the greats!  Available for download now for all our typical instruments!  Alles Gute aus Bandhymns.com!

God Is Love at Home

love_at_homeJust a couple more hymns added to the library and ready to download right before Easter Sunday.  Not directly related to Easter, but maybe a reminder when you are with your family.  The first hymn is #87, God Is Love – a familiar tune and a nice hymn.  The second hymn is one we remember singing all the time (so it seemed) when we were young; a hymn which is highly recognizable because of the large swelling chords at the end; hymn #294, Love at Home.

Don’t forget our Easter hymns which you can save money when you buy the Duet Compilation.  See the Easter Announcement here.

Have a very Happy Easter and may your home be filled with God’s Love.

Blessings Flow in a Mysterious Way

Blessings_in_a_BoxBandhymns.com is happy to announce another hymn ready to download for all our standard instruments, both duet and complete score, hymn #242, Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow.  This is a very old hymn also known as “The Common Doxology” and is recognized by Christian denominations across the world.

We also thought it was time for another freebie, so we looked through the hymnbook for something short and simple.  We have added both duets and full score + parts arrangements for all our standard instruments for hymn #285, God Moves in a Mysterious Way.  This is a simple hymn in an easy key.

Gather Guidance from General Conference

Just in time for conference weekend, Bandhymns.com is glad bring you a few apropos hymns.

TabernacleFirst the classic and popular conference hymn, #19, We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet.  This one is a bit difficult because of the key.

Next, one of our favorites for the moving phrases, hymn #83, Guide Us, O Thou Great Jehovah.

And don’t forget a couple of our previous popular conference hymns, #2 The Spirit of God, #5 High on a Mountain Top, and #19 Praise to the Man.

All these hymns are available to download right now for all our instruments.  Happy conference this weekend!

Be Thankful for Easter

empty_tomb_doorLuke 24:
2) And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
3) And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
4) And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
5) And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
6) He is not here, but is risen:

The staff here at Bandhymns.com is pleased to announce the availability of another compilation of duets ready for download right now.  Our music minions have spent some extra effort to get this collection of Easter hymns done on time.  We took the Thanksgiving hymns and the Easter hymns and combined them into one compilation titled “Be Thankful for Easter”.

We think it’s a natural combination . . . how thankful we are of the glorious gift of the Resurrection given by our Redeemer to all mankind!

The compilation features 12 single-page duet arrangements.  These compilations are available for all our instruments.  If your congregation is having an Easter program in church on Easter Sunday, why not add some clarinets or flutes . . . or Heaven forbid, maybe even a glorious trombone or trumpet (gasp)!

Three Sacrament Hymns

SacramentPartaking of the sacrament is one of the more spiritual things that members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints do as part of their weekly worship service.  These three hymns are well known and very familiar to pretty much every member of the Church.  There is an informative article about the sacrament on the LDS.org website.  It’s about time we added these sacred hymns.

The music minions have been working against a deadline and we are glad to announce that they made it.  Bandhymns.com is happy to announce the addition of three sacrament hymns to our library.  The hymns are:
#173 While of These Emblems We Partake
#191 Behold the Great Redeemer Die
and
#192 He Died! The Great Redeemer Died

These hymns are available for download right now for all our instruments.

Adapted by Big Daddy Bach

Johann_Sebastian_BachOur music minions approached Hymn #197, O Savior, Thou Who Wearest a Crown, with a fair amount of gravitas and reverence.  This is because Hymn #197 is one of the few songs in the LDS hymnal which is a bit more technical and musical.  We like those songs best!

O Savior, Thou Who Wearest a Crown is attributed to Hans Leo Hassler, 1564–1612, but was adapted by J. S. Bach, 1685–1750, in his St. Matthew Passion.  The passion contains some beautiful melodies and variations on the theme we hear in Hymn #197.  Check out the wikipedia article about it.  Also, check out the choral album titled “Morimur” by the Hilliard Ensemble.

We’re excited to offer it as part of our library!  Download it and give it a try.  The arrangement is in a difficult key and it’s more difficult to play than other hymns.  It sounds awesome as a quartet!

33 is the Magic Number!

33_magic_fluteHere at Bandhymns.com, we officially have No Agenda . . . In the Morning, we love to listen to Dvorak and chew on Curry every Thursday (and sometimes on Sundays).  And often we think that the number 33 is special somehow . . . a magic number.

And so we are pleased to note that our music minions have finally reached 33 hymns, that magic number of available songs on the site, with the addition of hymn #69, All Glory, Laud, and Honor, and hymn #136, I Know That My Redeemer Lives.

To quote Napoleon’s friend Pedro, “[Download all 33], and all your wildest dreams will come true.”

P.S. If you get all the references in this post, we’d love to hear about it.

Risen Today to Do Good

One of our staff just got back from a funeral and has been a little introspective about life.  Funerals can do that.  Everyone here at Bandhymns.com takes great comfort in the Gift of the Resurrection.  We’re happy to note that Hymn #200, Christ the Lord Is Risen Today, is available now for download in time for Easter.

Given our introspective mood, it seemed inspirational that Craig (Hi Craig!) contacted us about a particular hymn, Have I Done Any Good?  What better way is there to get through sad times than to do good and help others?  We’re happy to announce that the music minions have rushed to complete Hymn #223, also available now for download.  This one has always seemed a little “old timey” to us, so here’s a picture of an old timey band.
