Glorious Things uber Alles

474px-Joseph_HaydnIn a previous post, Bandhymns.com was delighted to extol the virtues of Big Daddy Bach . . . but he isn’t the only famous classical composer in the hymnbook.  Today, we are pleased to offer a very well known tune by Franz Joseph Hayden, Hymn #46, Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken.

This tune is not just known as a hymn, but it is also recognized as Germany’s National Anthem, called the “Deutschlandlied” or “Das Lied der Deutschen” (according to wikipedia).  Which is why the melody is so familiar to many of us.  Our music minions were embarrassed as they worked this sheet music when our flute play tester asked why we were doing the “Uber Alles” song . . . then it clicked and it all made sense.
This one is worth having for its historical significance and that it was penned by one of the greats!  Available for download now for all our typical instruments!  Alles Gute aus Bandhymns.com!
