“Giving your all” to a cause reminded us of two events in the life of Joseph Smith, an opening event which is commemorated in hymn #26, Joseph Smith’s First Prayer<\/em>; and a closing event which is associated with hymn #29, A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\"32496_all_001_01-Vision\"<\/a>Hymn #26 describes the seminal event which began the restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints which is known as the First Vision<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The martyrdom of Joseph and Hyrum Smith<\/a> is often commemorated by singing hymn #29.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 As noted in the History of the Church: “On the afternoon that Joseph Smith and his brother, Hyrum, were killed by a mob in prison in Carthage, Illinois, the Smiths requested [John] Taylor sing [A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief] twice.” (B.
