With the 4th of July National Holiday in the USA right around the corner, the Staff here at Bandhymns.com wanted to complete the patriotic hymns in the very back of the hymnal.  This post announces that the first of them is complete and ready for download now.  We started with Hymn #339, My Country, ‘Tis of Thee.

This brought us to a discussion about the music, the hymn, and our feelings regarding the United States of America.  First, we are fully aware that You, our readers and followers, are NOT limited to the USA – we’re happy to say we have an international following!  But with that said, we also point out that everyone on the Staff here at Bandhymns.com are citizens of the USA.

Without delving too deep into our personal political feelings, we fell it is safe to say that at one time, The United States of America was the Greatest Country in the World . . . but we’re not so sure that is still as true today as it was 60 years ago.  This poster sums our feelings up nicely – our trust is in God the Father.

We had a special request to do hymn #254, True to the Faith, from a young woman planning to go with her stake youth on Pioneer Trek this summer.  She’s super excited and was anxious to ask for the announced Trek theme.  We were happy to oblige!

We have posted duet arrangements for hymn #254 for our typical instruments, available for download now.  Please click on your instrument from our Get to the Music! page and scroll down to hymn #254.  This duet is a fun one particularly in the second part.  It’s got a wonderful moving part that is a lot of fun to play (after some practice).  Check it out!

Not everyone on the staff here at Bandhymns.com has been on trek, but those who have certainly have stories to tell.  We wish Kayla the best of luck for her upcoming trek!

“Giving your all” to a cause reminded us of two events in the life of Joseph Smith, an opening event which is commemorated in hymn #26, Joseph Smith’s First Prayer; and a closing event which is associated with hymn #29, A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief.

Hymn #26 describes the seminal event which began the restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints which is known as the First Vision.

The martyrdom of Joseph and Hyrum Smith is often commemorated by singing hymn #29.  Why?  As noted in the History of the Church: “On the afternoon that Joseph Smith and his brother, Hyrum, were killed by a mob in prison in Carthage, Illinois, the Smiths requested [John] Taylor sing [A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief] twice.” (B. H. Roberts (ed.) (1902). History of the Church, vol. 6, pp. 614–15; vol. 7, p. 101.)Bandhymns.com is pleased to provide duet arrangements of these two meaningful hymns for all our standard instruments available now for download.

 

In a previous post, Bandhymns.com was delighted to extol the virtues of Big Daddy Bach . . . but he isn’t the only famous classical composer in the hymnbook.  Today, we are pleased to offer a very well known tune by Franz Joseph Hayden, Hymn #46, Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken.

This tune is not just known as a hymn, but it is also recognized as Germany’s National Anthem, called the “Deutschlandlied” or “Das Lied der Deutschen” (according to wikipedia).  Which is why the melody is so familiar to many of us.  Our music minions were embarrassed as they worked this sheet music when our flute play tester asked why we were doing the “Uber Alles” song . . . then it clicked and it all made sense.
This one is worth having for its historical significance and that it was penned by one of the greats!  Available for download now for all our typical instruments!  Alles Gute aus Bandhymns.com!

We never say it often enough,
They never seem to hear it enough,
And some of our mothers aren’t around to hear it anymore . . .

Just a couple more hymns added to the library and ready to download right before Easter Sunday.  Not directly related to Easter, but maybe a reminder when you are with your family.  The first hymn is #87, God Is Love – a familiar tune and a nice hymn.  The second hymn is one we remember singing all the time (so it seemed) when we were young; a hymn which is highly recognizable because of the large swelling chords at the end; hymn #294, Love at Home.

Bandhymns.com is happy to announce another hymn ready to download for all our standard instruments, both duet and complete score, hymn #242, Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow.  This is a very old hymn also known as “The Common Doxology” and is recognized by Christian denominations across the world.

We also thought it was time for another freebie, so we looked through the hymnbook for something short and simple.  We have added both duets and full score + parts arrangements for all our standard instruments for hymn #285, God Moves in a Mysterious Way.  This is a simple hymn in an easy key.

Just in time for conference weekend, Bandhymns.com is glad bring you a few apropos hymns.

First the classic and popular conference hymn, #19, We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet.  This one is a bit difficult because of the key.

Next, one of our favorites for the moving phrases, hymn #83, Guide Us, O Thou Great Jehovah.

And don’t forget a couple of our previous popular conference hymns, #2 The Spirit of God, #5 High on a Mountain Top, and #19 Praise to the Man.

The staff here at Bandhymns.com is pleased to announce the availability of another compilation of duets ready for download right now.  Our music minions have spent some extra effort to get this collection of Easter hymns done on time.  We took the Thanksgiving hymns and the Easter hymns and combined them into one compilation titled “Be Thankful for Easter”.

We think it’s a natural combination . . . how thankful we are of the glorious gift of the Resurrection given by our Redeemer to all mankind!

The compilation features 12 single-page duet arrangements.  These compilations are available for all our instruments.  If your congregation is having an Easter program in church on Easter Sunday, why not add some clarinets or flutes . . . or Heaven forbid, maybe even a glorious trombone or trumpet (gasp)!

Partaking of the sacrament is one of the more spiritual things that members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints do as part of their weekly worship service.  These three hymns are well known and very familiar to pretty much every member of the Church.  There is an informative article about the sacrament on the LDS.org website.  It’s about time we added these sacred hymns.

The music minions have been working against a deadline and we are glad to announce that they made it.  Bandhymns.com is happy to announce the addition of three sacrament hymns to our library.  The hymns are:
